Social Listening: Falling In Reverse
For this assignment I chose one of my current music obsessions, Falling In Reverse. Ronnie Radke has made quite the name for himself in the alternative music scene, getting hate from many people. Known for his rock star attitude, previous heroin addiction, and "asshole lyrics", there is a lot to be said about Falling In Reverse. Looking into the value proposition of the band, most of the lyrics surround Ronnie's personal experiences from incarceration, issues with his mother, and the corruption of Las Vegas, but mainly the things he's been through. The band's music is a form of coping for past addicts and a resource to relate to when going through recovery. From the surface, the music doesn't seem that deep, but that's the beauty of it, it's something you can enjoy while coping instead of listening to music that gets deep and literal, which frankly can be very depressing. @sammieewastaken on Instagram commented "This is the most underwhelming thing I've heard in a while. How did he manage to turn an iconic song into this unremarkable ass mess? His voice is passable but the melodies are as generic as you can get. What's with all the hype? I honestly don't get it." on a pinned video on the band's page where the band was performing a cover of "Last Resort" from Papa Roach. Many people, including myself, weren't too impressed by this cover, the original hit the spot the first time, there was no need to reimagine it. @firstrespondersshenanigans mentions, "Dude could just do music and collect his money. Instead, he devotes his life and time now to giving people hope through his art and pulls people up from dark places. Thank you RR!" on the band post about why Ronnie does what he does. Many people on this post are showering him with compliments and highlighting why people enjoy the band as much as they do. Ending on another positive note, the band posted a video of Ronnie and the frontman for Papa Roach performing together, and as @im.bean says "And it was ******* amazing, best concert I have ever been to in a long time!". Currently, the band is focusing on promoting their upcoming performances with Avenged Sevenfold on their tour, their marketing strategies involve reposting the tour poster every day, updating fans on ticket availability, and shouting out each city after each performance. This marketing tactic of showing how exciting the concerts are and the limited availability gives viewers the urge to purchase tickets, in fear of missing out on an amazing performance. For a band this is the best way to be marketing, this type of marketing extends over nearly all the top social media platforms, including Spotify. They aren't involved in much engagement with their customers on their social media pages but do give an opportunity for any issues or questions by providing a customer service email on their website. In the few instances I see them engaging with comments left on their social media is Ronnie reacting to the hate messages on his own page. For a band I believe this works best when it comes to marketing, it gets the word out easily as fans repost the tour poster, each band has its own following so the news about them going on tour is definitely reaching the people it's meant to. If I were the brand manager for Falling In Reverse, I would continue this system and would be glad that Ronnie takes his roasting of his haters to his own page and not on the band's promotional page.
